Abstract

Dr. Edy Francisco Frías Méndez was born in Santiago de Cuba.
Graduated in the University of Havana of medicine the 4 of June of 1960.
As every young revolutionary did his Rural Medical Service in the province of Santa Clara during the years 1961-1962. There he held various positions of health management: provincial director of hospitals and polyclinics in the province, regional director of MINSAP, until 1963.
In 1964, in the capital, he is head of the department of thoracic surgery of the Hospital Julio Trigo, being head of the thoracic surgery until 1967. In 1965 he began to be a member of the PCC. In 1969 he obtained the certification of first degree specialist in General Surgery and in that same year he became regional director of health of the Marianao municipality. In 1970 he was appointed director of the Julio Trigo Hospital until 1974. He was head of the National Pneumology Group from 1973 to 1975 and was part of the establishment of the new tuberculosis (TB) control program in Cuba during the first five years of the decade. 70. During the years 1971-1973 in countries of the Western Hemisphere: Mexico, Chile, Colombia, in scholarships on TB programs and in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) and in Hungary, knowing and training about the organization of Pneumology Institutes And Thoracic Surgery in those European countries.
