Abstract

Introduction: Ekbom syndrome is a rare neuropsychiatric condition where the patient is convinced that their skin is infested with parasites.

Objective: Describe the psychopathological alterations in a patient diagnosed with Ekbom syndrome

Clinical case: Male, 48 years old, introverted, distracted, distrustful and with emotional lability; he began at the age of 34 with tactile and visual hallucinations referred to as the visualization of the scabies parasite walking under his skin (delusion of infestation). During admission, after surgery for hydrocele, was diagnosed a monosymptomatic hypochondriac psychosis specifically primary Ekbom syndrome. After several weeks of admission, remission is achieved with the combination of alprazolam and risperidone.

Conclusions: Ekbom syndrome is a rare diagnosis of exclusion.
