Peer Review Process

Journal Archives of the "General Calixto García" University Hospital  complies with the unified requirements for biomedical journals of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, 5th edition, 1997 (New Engl J Med. 1997;336(4):309-15).

All rigorous research involves a process of impartial, independent, and critical evaluation, which is intrinsic to the scientific work itself.

The initial review period will be 30 days, and the maximum period will be up to 60 days. During both periods, authors will be informed of the editorial decision, in the first stage, whether or not they comply with the journal's standards.
The peer review system requires independent, blind evaluation by reviewers, which the journal employs at a minimum in its assessment process for contributions submitted for publication. Single-blind review means that the articles submitted to the referees can be identified. The independence of the review is achieved by masking the referees from each other and from the authors; this also provides a single-blind approach.

During the peer-review process, special care will be taken to adhere to established ethical standards, avoiding conflicts of interest. The use of knowledge acquired by reviewers during the evaluation of the work for personal gain prior to publication is strictly prohibited; as is the public dissemination of research results. Materials subject to peer review may not be reproduced or discussed with anyone without the consent of the journal's editor. The names of the referees reviewing each individual work will not be revealed, although they may be revealed collectively as a form of encouragement. The journal's Editorial Board reserves the right to reject articles it deems unsuitable for publication. Once each issue is published, authors may not suggest changes to the original version entered into the system, as it constitutes the editor's final version.

This journal also conveniently utilizes open peer review practices as a mechanism to promote transparency in the editorial and scholarly communication process. For the evaluation of each manuscript, the Editorial Committee will have a maximum period of up to 60 days to respond to each author regarding the evaluation results of the submitted submission.
