Resumen

Introducción: Las enfermedades cardiovasculares constituyen la principal causa de muerte en el sexo femenino y son responsables además de un tercio de todos los fallecimientos que ocurren en la etapa postmenopáusica.
Objetivo: Analizar la relación entre menopausia, climaterio y aspectos relacionados con la cirugía de revascularización miocárdica.
Desarrollo: La menopausia es reconocida como un proceso fisiológico complejo, debido a la disminución de hormonas ováricas: estrógeno y progesterona. Además de los síntomas conocidos, se asocia a una marcada aceleración de los cambios provocados por factores de riesgo para las enfermedades cardiovasculares. En cuanto a la cirugía de revascularización miocárdica quirúrgica en mujeres, existen elementos que contribuyen a una mortalidad superior de forma significativa.
Conclusiones: La conducta habitual es extrapolar resultados. Predomina el sexo masculino ante la población femenina y dentro de este subgrupo, se generalizan los resultados de mujeres postmenopáusicas a mujeres premenopáusicas, tendencia inapropiada, en opinión de los autores.
